UEFA PRESIDENT GETS DOWN TO GRASSROOTS

It was with great pride that Pollok United Academy welcomed UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin , SFA President Alan McRae and Chief Executive Stewart Regan on a fact finding visit. Our club was chosen by the SFA to showcase a good example of grass roots football and in particular it’s thriving girls section. It was a day for everyone involved in the Academy to be proud of and fantastic recognition for your achievements and dedication. Well done everyone.

Janie is Scotlands Grass Roots Hero

It is with great pride to announce our Janie as the SFA Grass roots peoples choice winner at this years awards ceremony. Janie was presented with her trophy by Kenny Dalglish at the glittering ceremony held at Hampden Park. Janie has been a huge source of energy at the academy and an inspirational figure to our girls and fellow coaches. Congratulations Janie, I don’t think there will ever be a more deserving champion.

CLEAR VISION FOR THE 2008’S

Specsavers stores at Newlands and Sauchiehall Street have sponsored Pollok United 2008’s football team, enabling the players to sport brand new strips.

Sarah Freel, store director at Specsavers Sauchiehall Street, says: ‘Supporting sporting teams, especially within the local area, means a lot to Specsavers. ‘We are extremely pleased to be able to help Pollok United 2008’s team and gift them with new strips through the sponsorship. We hope the strips give them an extra spring in their step when playing in their future games.’

The Pollok United 2008 team were presented with their new strips by top flight Scottish FA referee, Steven McLean.

Ian Finlayson, head coach, says: ‘We are really grateful for the support we have received from Specsavers. I know all the boys are extremely excited to be playing in brand new strips, they all train really hard each week and play really well together as a team. They were especially excited to be presented with the new kit by Scottish FA referee Steven McLean.’

The 2008 team is made up of enthusiastic youngsters aged eight to nine, who train weekly on a Tuesday evening at the Dennis Donnelly Park in Glasgow. The team is part of the Pollok United Soccer Academy, which has an SFA Community Club status, and is committed to providing a pathway from mini kickers to senior football.

Cash for Kids Summer Football A Great Success

The Cash for Kids Summer Football has been running since the 4th July and has seen as many as 30 local children enjoying free training and a healthy lunch. Radio Clyde pundit and ex Celtic player Mark Wilson joined in today and brought along the Scottish cup for the children to see. There are still 3 sessions to go on the 27th July and 1st & 3rd August.

Attention all Academy Goalkeepers

The academy have appoint Simon Fay as our new Goalkeeper coach.

Simon will have a time slot at the academy on a Thursday at 18:00. It’s a free to all Academy keepers.

The 2006’s and 07’s have already met Simon so it would be great for the rest of the age groups to get their keepers along and for all to share the knowledge and experience. Welcome to the club Simon.
